This clip is part of the documentary Tropical Coral Reefs Under Pressure. Some fish find shelter and go to rest, while other nocturnal fish begin the hunt for food. The reef shows up from completely different sides when night falls. Once a year it occurs. It´s one of Mother nature’s most spectacular events. Few days after the full moon the coral reef spawn. It is a collective mass spawning controlled by the phases of the moon, the tide and the sea temperature. Entire colonies of coral reefs simultaneously release their tiny eggs and sperm into the ocean. It is like a heavy snowfall with billions of colorful flakes cascading in white, yellow, red, and orange. It's clouds of eggs and sperm drifting in the water.  When the individual eggs are fertilized, the larvae can drift around in the water for several days or weeks before settling in and start forming a new coral colony.
