@Corbych4 years ago I wonder if full dive vr is possible, if it is. It would posssibly be used by the government and military and will be released to public after a few decades. But how dangerous is full dive vr? I wanna know. 52

@the_seeker.entity92064 years ago You can’t do active actions with other planets through vrbecause of the delay it’ll take minutes to interact with things that already happened 24

@andremakris30614 years ago Since Facebook bought Oculus Rift I’m pretty sure that they’re working on something like a VR Environment to meet friends, family, strangers... but also to spend time in there. Fun activities and games will be virtual. In fact I heard that Zynga is already working on those VR games. Facebook already did some demos but it’ll take until around 2024/2025 before their product will be out. Expect some tests of Beta versions before that. You can quote me on that +- 1-2 years on the dates since it’s dependent on the success they’ll have in development. That’s the only reason I still hold Facebook shares ... 6

@congruentcrib3 years ago Something that I always think about is a lot of times when talking about the future VR is that, you can sometimes feel saturated into game to the point nothing exist outside of your game. You can be oblivious to obvious things like the temperature in the room, or what’s happening downstairs. Along with that I think about how technology makes us less capable of old things, like remembering someone’s phone number. I feel like at some point we wouldn’t need to have an actual suit or something to make us feel. I don’t see it being impossible that someday we can’t feel without our hands. Already we somewhat have this where a baby touches a flame. I could see feeling physically will not only fade away, but we no longer notice it’s gone. Imagine losing one of your senses; it’s not impossible, so imagine not being able to feel. Then virtual reality is a lot more realistic, not because we’ve replicated a sense, but simply removed it. ...

@zizkovhoodmoments15902 years ago theres one problem with controlling drones in VR outside of earth, and that is the speed of light. Moon has around 1s light lag, but mars and really anything farther can have several minutes and more and will never be realtime under current understanding of physics ... 1

@mischievousscroundel72774 years ago The problem I see with VR is a personal one. I am someone who really appreciate the energy and presence of someone in the room, I don't think VR could ever recreate that feeling 1

@not_x4 years ago Controlling a robot on the surface of another planet while in VR would not work very well (it would be unusable). We know that VR experiences are terrible when we have any input lag, and that lag would be 2*1.28 seconds if the robot is on the moon, and ~2*4 years if the robot is in the closest planetary system to ours. This can be improved only if we discover a way in which information can travel faster than light, which I doubt very much. Exploring other planets in our galaxy in VR would be possible only if those planets were first scanned and placed into virtual worlds. ... 2

@Cookie-ps2yh4 years ago Furthermore, when raising the question could we indeed transport into a new life where we live forever. And personally, I could see that partially true with the 'life is a simulation' theory.
In a constant timeloop, where one enters the world as someone new and slowly progresses through history to the point where it could be humanely possible to restart the cycle, to initiate yourself into this world. Of course, it is all hypothetical, and may have loopholes, but could ultimately make sense.

@robertweekes57833 years ago VR controlled robots are certainly viable, but at long distances (like earth to Mars) there would be noticeable time lag due to light speed signal transit time ... 1

@shramwow6783 years ago college/private education in VR could be totally feasible, even down to the aspect of testing . During tests, students cant take off their headset or else the sensor that detects that the headset is on will notify the teacher and turn on their webcam. Additionally, testing environment prior and post-test would be inspected by the teacher via webcam to ensure that the student is not cheating. If the environments post and pre-test don't match up or if a notification that the headset was removed along with the triggered webcam footage recorded at the time of the headset's removal, the teacher/proctor would receive a notification. Then at the teachers'/proctors' discretion, they can tell if the student is cheating on a test. Any sign of tampering or headset removal WOULDN'T notify the student. This would be in order to deter cheaters who are attempting to circumvent these protections by not letting them know if they are being observed or if they have been caught. That would just be the protection efforts put in place so that people taking virtual courses could receive credits with the same credibility of schools with testing environments similar to that of a physical classroom. But those are just efforts to increase credibility and authenticity of the testing environment.
Other ideas like during the test, a particular testing scene established by the teacher could be rendered to increase the actual required knowledge of the subject being tested on. This can include testing questions that are physical in nature where the student taking the test may have to arrange certain molecules structures in order for a Chemistry test or show their work on a "blank-board" when taking a math test. There are many Interesting concepts for sure and the cost of tuition could literally be a model of or particular type of school sanctioned headset and webcam. The future holds many opportunities, especially in education where current efforts by schools to teach kids are failing because of information retention and students' abilities to focus on the lessons taught by their teachers.

@deeb334 years ago had a pretty surreal moment the other night, I was playing gears of war while in vrchat, then was streaming, and my friend opened my stream on the video player, and it was gaming, while gaming, while streaming, and consuming said stream in a game. it was really cool ...

@land30214 years ago I fear that there may be a lacking number of people working the power plants if we go full VR mode, aswell as a lacking amount of farmers and so on... Aswell as a fear of not being able to find anything unique to ourselves as a human being... Or that's just my fears.
I also fear that it'll undermine reality... or, this reality...

@drago59004 years ago Hey disrupt just wanted to say love the vids. And is there any chance that you could have a talk show where you just talk about random things like life and what ever really. And if so could you do it with that VHS type of voice thing. Its cool and kinda soothing. If you don't all good. Just really wanted to say that you make great vids man.
I don't know if this is already a thing or not. If so then please point me in the right direction. - thanks

@lucasmccullar61713 years ago I picture just talking off the dome. Like free styling... and that’s how I hear it. And I enjoy it. If so, it’s impressive. Not a lot of people can’t stay fluent as he.

@dustininn29534 years ago if we do get a fully realistic vr, is it possible have an interception type situation where you can enter vr in vr and so on? 1

@someguy89574 years ago Would virtual worlds become their own country? With a robust virtual economy they could. But governments would try to crack down on this. VR worlds would have to become a strong enough economic powerhouse that they could buy politicians, just like corporations do. ... 1

@unknownhawkeye21374 years ago Your ideas are so ahead of our current time. What you suggest will happen. The question is. Will you take them to reality on your own?.. 1

@jaybabcock91234 years ago Sadly we cant use VR to control robots on other planets because the signal time creates a massive delay. It can take like 30 min at some points for NASA to send a single command to the mars rovers.
