Tami Hicks explains Padlet, Flipgrid as resources for teachers, instructional aides of ELL students.

Tami Hicks is the Director of Professional Learning for Wabash Valley Education Center (WVEC). The staff at WVEC have been fielding many questions from schools this spring including: How can schools engage English learners in a virtual environment? How can instructional aides in the schools continue to support English learners? How can schools continue to provide professional learning for instructional aides? To help, WVEC created a padlet specifically for instructional aides and classroom teachers with English learning students in their classrooms. The hope is that this padlet (link below) will be helpful for aides and teachers who will be reaching out to ELL students directly. It includes links to videos, Google Slides, strategies for classroom activities along with ideas for integrating these activities into the classroom, and additional online resources that were extended to include digital resources for English learning students. WVEC continues to update these online resources. Padlets are a user friendly, easy to manipulate collaboration tool. Anyone with the link to an active padlet can view posted resources, add additional resources, and create new categories. WVEC has also been offering office hours for teachers in an effort to give teachers a place to talk, collaborate, and brainstorm on activities that they are finding useful. When we think about English learners, it is important to provide many opportunities for them to collaborate in order to build language skills. Tami mentions Flipgrid as an interactive and especially powerful tool to help English learners practice their speaking and language skills.
