The Ancient Riddle of Thoth, Part 1

From ancient Egypt to nuclear energy, from the Great Pyramid of Giza to WIPP in New Mexico. In the first episode of the series, we will see if our future can teach us anything about our past. As we entered the atomic age and began to stockpile hazardous nuclear waste, we realized that we had a problem. The waste remains dangerous for an incredibly long time. Not only must we find a safe way to store the waste, but we must warn people in the future about where these storage sites are located so they do not disturb them. But this task proved much more difficult than we imagined. A team engineers, physicists, anthropologists, and experts from many other fields was assembled to figure out how to do it. Was it possible to leave a message that could last 10,000 years or more? Languages don't last long enough, especially in the same form, to reliably communicate a message across the eons. English is less than 2000 years old, and has dramatically changed over its lifetime. So what do the experts recommend that we do to communicate with our distant future? The results may shock you. The answer then surprisingly turns our vision to the past, where we realize that we could actually have messages from our ancient ancestors, waiting to be understood and decoded.
