@deadchannel223 years ago So, I watched the first 2 seasons of MHA, and I couldn't tell you what happened. I was kinda bored and unimpressed. That being said, I don't think it's a bad anime by any stretch. I went from being called a fucking weeb in school to not being able to go anywhere without seeing some kid saying "can I tell you about my favourite anime, My Hero Academia?" and honestly, I think it's a beautiful thing. Now, I have nothing against battle shounens. I grew up on a straight diet of Naruto, Bleach, InuYasha, and Fairy Tail. I still love all these shows. I think it's just one of those things where you kinda have to get into it as a kid and then grow up with it. Then again, I have a friend my age who loves the show, but I got him into anime during like grade 11 so I'd rather classify it as the perfect starter anime. That's how most people get into anime. They watch the currently popular battle shounen and then go from there.
The reason most fandoms (aside from Jojo's) are fairly chill is because lots of the popular anime are mainly popular with more casual anime fans. They don't know a lot of anime, but they love the ones they do. Most of us who've been fans for quite a few years have chilled out and don't get super heated about anything. At least not in a serious way. We know the lot of us are just here for a fun time. The newer, and often younger fans don't really have that restraint yet so that's why most toxic fandoms are for more mainstream shows. I know, because I used to be one. That being said, I'm also a hardcore Jojo's fan, so yeah. I do agree that pretty much every Jojo fan needs to take a chill pill or 20, but I also know what it's like to love an anime that much, so I try to be a bit more lax on new fans. Whenever someone finds out I like anime and starts being like "OMG HAVE YOU SEEN MHA????" I just smile and let them tell me how great it is. So long as you're not being toxic or super overbearing, go off. Love what you love. Let everyone enjoy anime together. ... 14

@DMAN993 years ago I always think of being a fan in three parts: Being a fan, Being in the fandom and being in the "fandom". Being a fan is what most people are, you consume the media, you enjoy the property in varying levels and you can even be a super fan and that's all you want to watch. Being in the fandom means being active within the community within that fandom, which can range from fanart to cosplay to discussion and it's still above board, still cool and fun. Then you have the "fandom" which is sadly always the most visible part, like the scum on top of a pond, they're the loudest, most annoying and cringiest part of the fandom and sadly what everyone then bases their opinions on. ... 9

When I met Joey at AX19, I was really happy he was nice to everyone. He handled everything super well and didn’t look annoyed or seemed annoyed any point of it (from what I saw obvi I didn’t stay the whole hour) He even complimented my Zelda cosplay and I honestly wasn’t expecting him to notice the costume even though zeldas fit is a lot lol.
