My local charity shop had a special offer running selling off their surplus of hairdryers for £1 each so I bought 10 of them to strip down for parts. I know from previous experience that although they run on 250v AC they have 12v DC motors fed by a diode bridge and the voltage is dropped over the heating element. I now have a nice selection of 10 DC motors and a few minor electrical components. The heater element wire may possibly be nichrome and certainly is designed to cope with getting hot so I might be able to use it for a Hot Wire Foam Cutter project at some time in the future.
